I stared at my phone, reading the text message again.

Rhiannon

I won’t be able to make it back home by New Year’s Eve. The siblings are having a New Year’s Eve party, and Willow and I need to be there. I’m sad to miss the big bash at Maggie’s.

Zane

Don’t worry about the party, Wally. You know Maggie and Xavi will understand. We’ll miss having you there, though.

Rhiannon

Same. I hate missing out, but duty calls.

She wasn’t going to be back until next week, which was fine, but it sucked that she had to spend a holiday alone in a city where she only had her brother, his best friend, her coworker, and some potential clients. In all this time, Rhiannon hasn’t ever had to work away from home during the holidays. I didn’t want her to be all alone bringing in the new year.

I also didn’t think I could go that long without seeing her. I missed Rhiannon more than I’d admit out loud. My finger tapped on the back of my phone case as I pondered over an idea that was brewing. It was probably stupid. I should probably dismiss it, but it felt right, and it was something I wanted to do. I jumped up off the couch and headed to my bedroom.
